A variety of techniques are used to assess subclinical atherosclerosis. Carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) is the most common measure and also includes plaque and flow assessment. Techniques to measure arterial stiffness, aortic plaques, brachial artery reactivity and ankle-brachial indices are also used.
